Small Group Meeting notes - 22nd May 2001 Josiah - What is your goal? Welcome Worship Word DISCUSSION: Compare some goals people have in life, people both in the group and outside. What should our goal ultimately be? One way of expressing this is that our ultimate goal is to please the Lord. JOSIAH: Josiah was a young King in a rebellious time, he matured to follow this same goal. Read 2 Chronicles 34v1-11, 14-19, 29-33. We will be looking at how Josiah pleased the Lord, and sharing ways in which we do the same. This should encourage each other and share good ideas. v3 Josiah sought the Lord? How do you seek the Lord? How did Josiah clear out sin? How do you clear out sin? How did Josiah restore worship? How do you restore worship in your life? How did Josiah restore the law? How do you restore the law in your life? Meditation using Psalm 24 Lead the group through a meditation based on the following: 1. Humble ourselves 2. Confess our sins 3. Seek the Lord 4. Obey the Lord IDEAS: 1. read v1-2 and ask people to speak prayers of worship to the Lord's greatness 2. read v3-6 and lead the group in a confession (perhaps splitting into prayer partners to confess to each other something the Lord needs to deal with 3. read v7-10 and imagine Jesus coming to you, he bends over and whispers in your ear 4. ask the group to repeat after you a prayer of commitment "Jesus, my Lord and King. I commit my life to loving you with all my heart, my soul, and my strength. I ask for your Holy Spirit to fill me now, so that I have the strength and guidance to seek and obey you in all things." Ask people to share the challenges that the Lord has asked of you tonight. Witness During a time of silence ask Jesus to show you one of your friends to pray for over the coming week. Share the name of this person with the group. In pairs pray that the Lord would bless each other with wisdom to know how to love this person. * Jesus at the Centre - Meeting with Jesus at core.
